
Georgia Gecht Urantia pioneer Georgia Gecht was born Georgia Alpha Wunderlich or "wonder light" was born on 19 March 1902 in Octavia, Butler Co., Nebraska. She was the daughter of George August Wunderlich and Ida Lavade Crumbliss. She had two older sisters, Zella and Zora, and one younger brother Boyd. In her younger years she was trained as a violinist and singer . She starred in musical productions in her younger years. She was reviewed in the theatre section in the Lincoln Star, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the Lyric Theatre as “One Fleeting Hour” with Misses, Dorothy Doyle and Georgia Wunderlich, soloists, Not to be missed. In the Lincoln Journal, Georgia is performing a violin obligato for the Methodist Church Christmas services in Epworth, Nebraska. In 1924 she had her own billing as a singer in Charleston, West Virginia. The Wunderlich family moved to Chicago and lived at 729 Diversey Parkway, Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after they arrived, Georgia's mother died on 15 September 1930 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. It was in Chicago that she met, a physician, Maximillan Gecht. Though he was 16 years her senior, they married on 25 May 1929. Dr Gecht was born in 09 September 1886 and immigrated to the US in 1910 from Austria. At the time that he met Georgia he had two daughters and a son from his first marriage. Georgia served in the armed forces during World War II. In the early 1960's Georgia discovered the Urantia Book and became one of its best scholars during this period. She was a member of the First Urantia Society of Los Angeles and hosted a study group in her home in Santa Monica. She was a frequent speaker at Society meetings and extensively wrote Urantia Book study aides for students of the book. It is not known whether Georgia and Max moved to Southern California together or whether she remained in California as a result of the war. Max Gecht was the sole stockowner of the Hillcrest Sanitarium in La Crescenta, California. It is not kn Angeles in 1955. Georgia lived in Santa Monica and later San Diego where she died on the 21st of December 1992. She is buried in Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in San Diego County.
